An American biotechnology firm from San Francisco has introduced a drug that slows down the aging of large breed dogs. According to the developers, the drug is effective when used for animals weighing 18 kilograms or more. It also prevents age-related diseases in pets.
Veterinarians say that the normal lifespan of a dog rarely exceeds 13 years. However, large dogs pass away earlier and age faster. This is due to elevated levels of IGF-1, a growth hormone. The drug is designed to reduce its content. The drug is administered by injection at intervals of 3-6 months. Research is also being conducted to develop daily tablets.
