A fresh publication in the British Journal of Sports Medicine says that a team of scientists from Semnan University of Medical Sciences in Iran, with the help of British and Norwegian colleagues, managed to find out that the risk of developing diabetes is directly related to how fast a person walks, and the faster he does it, the better his chances of avoiding the disease.
In order to establish this, scientists analyzed studies on this topic that were published from the end of the last century to last year. In total, they selected 10 group trials that lasted for several years with the participation of more than half a million American, Japanese and British adults, who were observed from three to 11 years.
Thus, the researchers found that regular walking at speeds of 3 to 5 km/h was associated with a 15% reduction in the risk of diabetes compared to slower walking. If the speed increases to 5-6 km / h, the probability of dangerous ailment, in turn, fell by almost 25%. The most effective scientists called vigorous walking with a sprawling step at a speed of more than 6 km / h, in which the risk reduction was estimated at 39%.
